Epsom Downs Nature World Forest School
We are proud of our well-resourced and enriching outdoor curriculum. On site we have our own early years forest school area, a farm, Sensory Garden and orchard as well as an allotment and biodome. Just a short walk away next to our enormous sports field is Epsom Downs Nature World on Headley Drive, whereby Years 1 to 6 take part in forest school sessions. This area has been funded by parents through the Friends of Epsom Downs fundraising group.
Here at Epsom Downs Community School our children get the opportunity to experience Forest School from the moment they start in the Rainbow Unit right up to Year 6, which is run by our level 3 trained forest school leaders.
These amazing grounds are used to enable the children to absorb themselves in learning about lifecycles and animal habitats, to use tools to build dens and whittle wood, identify different leaves, flowers and trees, produce natural art using a range of materials, travel through tunnels, as well as observing wildlife in the bird hides and pond. We also have a camp fire area where we cook outdoors! Forest school provides a wealth of life skills for our children, as well developing a love and appreciation of nature and the world around them.
