Enrichment
Enrichment in our Curriculum
We have designed a truly unique approach to our curriculum; so much so that we honestly believe that there is not another school in the land like Epsom Downs! Children have access to so many different learning experiences and opportunities, and this is because we have a heartfelt desire to enable each and every child to participate fully in current and future society as a responsible, self-confident citizen.
Our children deserve the very best opportunities and experiences, so our curriculum goes above and beyond the scope of the National Curriculum.
Year 1 to Year 4 children have regular, timetabled opportunities to:
- work with and learn from our farm animals
- learn about nature through gardening
- learn to ride a bike, then develop their confidence and ability to ride and balance
- learn from a sports specialist from Chelsea FC
- develop their understanding and awareness of physical and mental health in ‘Healthy Mind, Healthy Body’ classes
- learn about nutrition and health through Cookery classes
Year 5 and Year 6 children also have access to cutting edge computing hardware and software, including robotics and 3D printing, through specialist Computing teaching.
Children also learn to confidently swim, with timetables sessions at our local swimming pool for our Year 5 children.
All children from Nursery to Year 6 have regular opportunities to explore the outdoors in our beautiful, dedicated Forest School areas.
Every child learns about our School Values, including resilience, collaboration and teamwork, through timetables Commando Joe team-building sessions.
Our curriculum is enriched even further in a variety of ways: trips; visitors; real world contexts; innovative, stimulating and inspiring experiences; strong and meaningful cross-curricular links; purposeful use of the environment; and pupil and staff collaboration.
