Art in the Community
In collaboration with Epsom Arts Society, we are displaying work from Epsom Downs Community School at Tattenham Corner Train Station.
We have chosen to display the Year 5 art work based on the work of Japanese artist Hokusai. The children researched and discussed what they thought of Hokusai’s work and techniques used.
They used the idea of Hokusai’s piece ‘Under the Wave off Kanagawa’ to inspire their based on natural disasters. They used cold wax batik to create their pieces of art work.
Batik is a technique where the wax is applied to silk once dried the silk is then painted with ink. The wax acts as a resist, preventing dye from penetrating certain areas and allowing for intricate patterns to be created.
We hope you enjoy looking at the pieces as much as the children enjoyed creating them.
